The research conducted within the department has produced a variety
of systems and resources which work together to solve a variety of
problems in patient care:
-
WebCIS
(Web-based Clinical Information System) - a user interface that enables clinicians to browse the content of their patients' medical records in a simple and secure manner
- CDR (Clinical Data Repository) - the centralized collection of patient data used by WebCIS; employs a generic and flexible design to receive data from many different clinical computer systems used within the institution
- MED (Medical Entities Dictionary) - a central resource that defines and standardizes all the data stored in the CDR; a "rosetta" stone that translates to and from the coding systems used by different computing systems
-
MedLEE
(Medical Language Extraction and Encoding) - a program that translates medical narrative reports into structured (coded) data stored in the CDR
-
VigiLens
(Patient Health Monitor) - a program that constantly monitors the data being stored into the CDR and sends alerts when certain conditions arise; used to support clinical decision making, implement clinical guidelines and reduce medical errors
