Postdoctoral Fellowships in Biomedical Informatics (non-degree) The Department of Biomedical Informatic is pleased to offer two postdoctoral fellowships programs. The degree-granting fellowship is for individuals who wish to add informatics training to their prior doctoral work, generally in one of the health professions (medicine, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, etc.) This program leads to a master's or PhD degree. The non-degree fellowship is a traditional postdoctoral training program in which individuals who have earned doctoral degrees in biomedical informatics or a closely related field obtain additional specialized research training from a faculty member in our department. This program offers postdoctoral training only for individuals who have an earned PhD (or equivalent) in biomedical informatics or a closely related field (such as computer science, psychology, cognitive science, or biomedical engineering. An individual faculty member with whom the trainee has established a relationship supports such individuals for postdoctoral training. This, unlike degree candidates, such postdoctoral applicants should apply to a specific faculty member with whom they wish to work and who has agreed to be their sponsor. Such postdoctoral trainees generally remain at the DBMI for 2-3 years, concentrating on research and taking a few courses to enhance their training in biomedical informatics. If they are US citizens or have permanent resident status, they may also be eligible for postdoctoral support from our National Library of Medicine training grant. |
