Office of the Deputy Director

The role of this office is to assist scientists and engineers from industry and the University to work together to develop technologies with commercial value.

Internally, we provide daily oversight, support, and management services to the Director, faculty and various university entities that interact with the Center for Advanced Information Management (CAIM).
For example, we -
  • oversee one of the main CAIM functions - the seed grant program for Columbia researchers who work with industry partners;
  • alert faculty members to opportunities for external funding and collaboration with companies;
  • facilitate interactions with companies and with, for example, Columbia’s Science and Technology Ventures (STV);
  • establish and promote potential collaborations with other Centers for Advanced Technology (CATs) as well as other NYSTAR programs;
  • represent CAIM at local, regional, and national conferences, meetings, etc.;
  • provide guidance and assistance to faculty members to prepare proposals and progress reports to NYSTAR with the required content and format;
  • prepare and distribute promotional materials; and
  • maintain awareness of other intramural programs and researchers that can function synergistically to further the CAIM goals and mission.
